Dard Hunter profile in black and white

The Board of the North American Hand Papermakers is pleased to announce the opening of nominations to the Hall of Papermaking Champions. The committee will be accepting nominations for the 2023 inductees April 15th-June 15st, 2023. To learn more or to submit a nomination, please visit the Hall of Papermaking Champions main page. The nominations form with a more detailed description of the requirements and process is here.

The Hall of Papermaking Champions committee chair and the Board encourage nominations from anyone, whether a member of NAHP or not. The committee considers all nominations submitted in a given year and makes its recommendations to the membership based on which nominees have significantly inspired or changed the course of the papermaking field. (Nominators may compose their nomination text using whatever software they prefer but please cut and paste it into the nomination form. Attachments are not allowed in the interest of efficient and accurate processing of nominations.) For an idea of the types of contributions that qualified in the past, readers are advised to review the essays on previous Champions that appear on the Champions page.

For 2023, the Champions committee will share all nominations with members online on July 18th and solicit member input from July 18th until July 31st. This new procedure is being done in the interest of transparency and to solicit input from members.

Note the following dates:

Nomination deadline: July 15
Nominations sent to members: July 18
Membership input deadline: July 31
Finalist Champion nominees notified: about August 20
Membership approval of new Champions at annual business meeting: between October 19-21.

The Hall of Papermaking Champions Committee is chaired by Tim Barrett. The Committee evaluates nominations to the Hall and, after approval by the membership, it will oversee the documentation about the Champions for the NAHP website, and for a dedicated collection at the Robert C. Williams Museum of Papermaking.

NAHP has established the Hall of Papermaking Champions to honor individuals either singly or as part of a collaboration/group whose contributions during their careers have significantly inspired or changed the course of the papermaking field. Paper artists, traditional papermakers, toolmakers, scientists, conservators, historians and others are all eligible for nomination. (Nominees may be living or deceased.)
